There's so much in this reference to the poppies in both those places. Poppies are a beautiful symbol of our grateful acknowledgement of veterans in any war, but they are also a symbol of the heroin trade in the Middle East, which funds so much of the terrorists' activities, and is also a symbol of the poverty that forces farmers to turn to that crop. We must have room in our heads and hearts for all of it. Wonderful haiku.

That's beautiful. I tell you, having experienced for the first time how the UK memorializes Remembrance Day, they put the paltry efforts of Americans to shame. Perhaps that explains how we're able to just keep doing it again and again.
